Neuropsyiologic disorders impair normal learning, and social and emotional development afflict at least 5-8% of the school aged children in this country. Significant symptoms often persist into adulthood, and many people struggle for a lifetime never understanding what continues to hamper their functioning. Brainstorms examines questions surrounding the possible neurobiological underpinnings of the emotionally hyperactive and hyperreactive components of ADHD and related disorders. These pre-psychological substrata may, for example, be fundamental to what we think as temperament. Here is where the regulation of selective inattention and the filtration of noise reside, as well as the neurosystems behind energy, sleep/wakefulness, and emotional intensity.
Bob Seay: The Mining Co. ADD Site Guide:
For those who want to know more - "Brainstorms" is decidedly NOT a first book about ADD.After years in private practice, Dr. Horacek has developed a theory about ADD and Common Co-morid disorders, such as Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive and others. One of the few ADD books to give a comprehensive overview of life with these "differences". A LOT of medical information and some pretty heavy reading, but well worth the effort. - full review
